Dunfermline town has a twinning link with Trondheim in Norway and it was decided to establish a friendship link with the Soroptimist club there. This was established in 1989 and there have been several visits from the club and several visits to Trondheim. One particularly important visit was in 1992, when the Trondheim club held a European Conference and we were asked to contribute to the theme, which included child care and the working mother. The then President of the club gave an overview of the situation as it was in Scotland at that time. This was a highly successful conference, where all delegates learnt from each other. In May 2008 a member of the Tronheim club visited Dunfermline and gave an report on the work they are doing in connection with helping immigrant women to settle in Trondheim. This project is now being studied by the Dunfermline club in case the club decides to do something similar in Fife.
