CELEBRATORY “DIG-IN”
Many of Dunfermline Soroptimists rallied round on the 30th/31st October 2010 to ensure their orchard planting would be a huge success in recognition of the 60th Anniversary of their club’s Charter in Dunfermline. With the help of friends and families, who all enjoyed the glorious weather, most of the 60 apple trees selected for the Community Orchard in Townhill Country Park were duly bedded in and the rest will be planted later in the year. A hedge made up of a carefully chosen range of shrubs with berries to attract wild life was also planted.

Five Soroptimists attended Queen Anne High School Awards evening where President Sandra Wilkinson presented a new award for personal achievement to Laura Watts. This annual award was created to commemorate Dunfermline Soroptimists 60th year for a female pupil from a local High school.
Rather than rewarding academic or sporting achievements, it was decided to look for a girl who had ‘turned her life around’ in some way, bringing credit to herself and her school.

Open Evening for Prospective Members in Dunfermline – Advertising Pays!
Eva Tyson the Press and Publicity Officer for SI Dunfermline, sent me an advertisement they placed in a local magazine ’Go Local’ to publicise their Open Evening on the 26th February. The successful Open Evening included meeting seven prospective members, including the Editor and Co-Editor of the magazine in which the advert was placed! After hearing the presentations and overviews of our Soroptimist work by various club members, they asked if they could have an article about Project Sierra for the magazine. Eva also placed an advertisement in a local daily newspaper. Well done to everyone concerned with this successful Open Evening, and congratulations for getting the publicity.
